A veterinary emergency includes any situation where your pet is suddenly unwell, injured, or in distress and in need of urgent care. This can include difficulty breathing, collapse, seizures, severe pain and/or bleeding, trauma, ingestion of toxins or foreign objects, or sudden changes in behaviour or mobility. If you are unsure, please call us or immediately take your pet to an emergency vet.

Yes, SASH North Ryde has a dedicated Avian & Exotics department that provides veterinary care to birds, reptiles, rabbits, guinea pigs, ferrets, and other exotic pets. Please note, the Avian & Exotics department does not operate 24/7.

 

Although a referral from your regular vet is preferred, it is not essential. Referrals help ensure your pet receives the most appropriate care from the right specialist. However, in the absence of a referral, we are able to obtain your pet’s clinical history from your regular vet with your consent.

A general vet provides pets with routine and first-line care. Veterinary specialists have additional advanced training, and proven capabilities and knowledge in specific areas of veterinary medicine, like surgery, internal medicine or oncology, allowing them to manage and treat more complex or unknown cases.
