Dr Peter Hill, Dermatology Specialist is available for referrals at SASH Adelaide, Kent Town, every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.

Dr Peter Hill completed his veterinary studies at the University of Liverpool, UK in 1986. He undertook a residency in veterinary dermatology at the University of Madison-Wisconsin before returning to the UK to complete a PhD at the University of Edinburgh. Dr Peter Hill spent many years in academia, and was the Head of the University of Adelaide’s Department of Companion Animal Health before joining SASH Adelaide in 2022. He has published over 100 journal articles and book chapters, and is the only veterinary dermatology specialist in South Australia, and the only one in the world to hold a PhD and be board certified in the UK, USA, and Europe.

A full range of skin diseases can be evaluated by Dr Peter Hill, including:

  • Allergies – including Cytopoint and Apoquel failures, severe phenotypes, refractory pruritus, juvenile onset, allergy testing and immunotherapy.
  • Skin infections – including recurrent dysbiosis, microbial overgrowth vs infections, hidden presentations, MRSP, expert cytological analysis, extended antibiotic susceptibility testing, prophylaxis, optimised treatment regimes and client education.  
  • Ear infections – including recurrent vs refractory presentations, intractable Pseudomonas infections, ear drop failures (best to refer early), hyperplastic otitis, ruptured ear drums, otitis media, PSOM and CT and video-otoscopic examinations.
  • Pododermatitis – including differentiating between allergic, infectious and conformational causes, persistent pedal pruritus, interdigital nodules, draining tracts and pad disorders
  • Hair coat disorders – including differentiation between folliculitis, cycling abnormalities and follicular dysplasias, expert trichography, whether or not to biopsy and specialised biopsy techniques.
  • Nail diseases – including onychomadesis, onychodytrophy and SLO
  • Autoimmune skin diseases – including pattern recognition and probability inputs, expert cytological analysis, cytological vs biopsy diagnosis, precise biopsy site selection and orientation, optimised topical and systemic treatment regimes.
  • Skin lumps and nodules – including differentiation between inflammatory, infectious and neoplastic causes, FNA diagnosis, tissue cultures, rare entities.
