Specialist in Oncology
Dr Penny Thomas graduated from the University of Sydney with first class honours in 2011. During university she worked in specialist and referral practice as a nurse which helped to develop a keen interest in Oncology and cancer therapy in animals. She worked in mixed practice in the Hunter Valley after graduating and enjoyed the country lifestyle but returned to Sydney in 2013 for a rotating internship, Oncology internship, then Residency at SASH.
Penny finished her residency training in Veterinary Oncology in April 2017 and became a Registered Specialist in Veterinary Oncology in 2019. During her training she spent time at Colorado State University, the University of Madison Wisconsin, The Chris O’Brien Lifehouse and the Animal Health Trust in the UK. She is a member of the Veterinary Cancer Society and has obtained her Memberships of the Australian College of Veterinary Scientists in small animal medicine. Penny has obtained her Fellowship qualification in 2019 in Veterinary Oncology and now works predominantly from our Central Coast clinic. She regularly participates in continuing education talks to general practitioners in both Sydney and regional NSW. She has a keen interest in haematological cancers and has published papers on multiple myeloma, anal sac cancer in cats and chemotherapy for T cell lymphoma in dogs. Outside of work she is kept busy at the gym, with her giant dog Flynn, spotty horse PJ and ginger cat Ron.
