Specialist in Anaesthesia & Analgesia
Maria completed her Veterinary Medicine degree in Brazil in 2005, followed by a combined Internship and Residency Program in Anaesthesiology (DVSc) at the Ontario Veterinary College, Canada. During her training, Maria had the opportunity to learn about the anaesthetic management of large and small animals, cancer patients, zoo animals and exotic species alongside the completion of a research degree focused on analgesic drugs. Amongst other topics, Maria is passionate about anaesthesia for thoracic and cardiac procedures. Maria has been a Diplomate of the American College of Anesthesia and Analgesia (ACVAA) since 2009 and is a Registered Anaesthesia Specialist in Australia. Over the last 15 years Maria has worked and lectured as an Anaesthesiologist at Massey University (New Zealand), James Cook University (Townsville) and at the University of Queensland (Gatton).
Maria joined SASH in 2021 and currently also works part-time as an Equine Anaesthesiologist in the Hunter Valley, NSW. Outside of work Maria enjoys spending time with family and with her two horses, Diesel and Alberto.
