Dr Monica Olivier

Emergency Veterinarian

Dr Monica Olivier graduated with a BVSc degree in 2016 from the University of Pretoria in South Africa. After that, she worked a community service year for the government of South Africa doing disease surveillance, export control and animal welfare clinics. In 2018 Monica moved to Cairns where she worked in general practice for 2 years before heading back to South Africa just before COVID. In South Africa she worked in animal shelters for almost another 2 years before movingly over to Australia again and coming to work for SASH as emergency vet.

Dr Monica have always been interested in emergency vet work as well as soft tissue surgery. She is also very passionate about shelter or welfare work especially in 3rd world countries where there are so many animals of all shapes and sizes suffering due to lack of veterinary care.  

Monica loves to spend time with her beautiful rescued mixed breed dog Sophie, who is also from South Africa, a haughty but handsome rescue cat called Houdini who keeps her on her toes, and her amazing partner Lourens, who brings her a warm dinner in the middle of the night while on night duty.
