Common cutaneous mass and management

During this webinar, Dr Lincoln Chau, Specialist in Surgery at SASH Gold Coast, will provide a practical approach to reconstruction following tumour excision in cases where primary closure is not possible. Focusing on mast cell tumours and soft tissue sarcomas, the session will discuss how margin selection and reconstructive planning should be considered together from the outset to achieve both oncologic and functional success. Reconstructive options will include subdermal plexus flaps, axial pattern flaps, and free skin grafts, with particular emphasis on commonly used axial pattern flaps including the caudal superficial epigastric, genicular, thoracodorsal, deep circumflex iliac, and superficial brachial flaps. The role of negative pressure wound therapy in staged wound management will also be reviewed. Case examples will be used throughout to illustrate flap selection, surgical planning, and practical approaches to managing challenging defects in clinical practice.
