Australia’s First Veterinary Trauma Centre

SASH has been pre-approved as a Veterinary Trauma Centre by the American College of Veterinary Emergency Critical Care (ACVECC). SASH is only the second hospital outside of North America (and the first in Australia!) to join the network, which is an initiative set up by the ACVECC to improve the study and treatment of trauma in pets, world wide. SASH was chosen for our ability to provide outstanding 24hr care of all trauma patients, including complex cases requiring advanced treatments and surgery.

Common types of trauma seen at SASH include hit by car, falls from a height, and bite wounds from other animals. These types of injuries can cause life-threatening complications such as internal bleeding, difficulty breathing, spinal injuries, bone fractures, and serious infections. Our emergency veterinarians, specialists, and nurses work closely with Dr. Erin Mooney and Dr. Nicole Spurlock in SASH’s dedicated intensive care unit to meet our patient’s needs including blood transfusions, oxygen therapy, mechanical ventilation, and continuous pain relief.

If your pet has experienced trauma, please contact your family veterinarian immediately. If your pet’s condition is serious, or it is out-of-hours, you may be referred to us. SASH is able to receive emergency trauma patients 24 hours a day, 7 days per week, 365 days a year.
