Story from #sashcancerhero: Mary Wagner: Harvey

First thing I noticed was Harvey’s poop started looking thin like a lead pencil. The vet checked him out, did a contrast xray and off we went to SASH with a bowel cancer diagnosis and tears in our eyes.

After meeting their specialists, surgery was ruled out. Dr Penny then took over his care. More options, more tears, more questions all calmly answered. Best guess with chemotherapy was 6 months.

Caring for him was a team effort between SASH and us. His blood tests, medications,  exams and nutrition I think were a chore for him but he didn’t complain, just took what came his way. Our monthly trip down the freeway to meet the beautiful girls got easier but still scary.

Harvey stayed well right to the last 2 weeks when he let us know he was ready to rest. We had an extra 11 amazing months with our little man and will never forget him. Although the tears still come we think about the good times and smile, we think about what might have happened if SASH wasn’t available. We are deeply grateful
