Bucci, a toy poodle developed an ulcer on her right eye. We were referred to SASH North Ryde by our local vet. SASH did a full examination of Bucci and advised she needed an operation. I am retired and the SASH doctor was concerned that I may not have the financial resources to pay for the operation.
I am of the opinion if you take on a pet then you have full responsibility to provide any services or treatment they may need. SASH did an incredible operation on her eye and which she retained full use. It is comforting to know these specialised services are available for pets.
I live on the Central Coast. I was driving down the M1 toward SASH North Ryde. Bucci needed a checkup. Unfortunately there was a major accident on the M1 and I phoned forward, the traffic was going nowhere and I would not make the appointment. I was advised they would stick around as long as possible and fit me in. I then received a call from SASH Central Coast who advised they knew of my dilemma and suggested they would accommodate me if that would assist. I advised I was going nowhere and I had nowhere to turn around until the traffic moved. This was no problem for SASH. I eventually turned around and headed to Tuggerah.
Some years later Bucci could not put her right leg to the ground. I contacted SASH Central Coast and arranged an immediate appointment. Bucci required an operation, I received a full explanation of what had happened and the treatment required. Bucci has made a full recovery and runs up and downstairs like a greyhound.
A few people hearing of Bucci’s plight have suggested I should have just had up her backside and put her down due to the cost of treatment. I disagree. Bucci was my late wife’s dog and apart from my belief of how pets should be looked after and I am of the belief should have had the operations. Bucci continues to provide ongoing enjoyment and company to me. SASH has provided me this opportunity with their professional help and understanding. –
