I’m a vet nurse of 15 + years at a GP vet clinic in rural NSW, and have recently had my first experience at a SASH clinic.
Our 7 year old female German Shepherd, Tala, fully ruptured her cranial cruciate ligament in her right knee after behaving like a puppy one day. I took her into work for a consult and x-rays to confirm, and my vet wrote up a referral to SASH Adelaide that day. We took her down the next week to have a consult prior to surgery, as I was a little unsure given her age if this was the right choice.
Our vet, Dr Ryan Taggart, explained the different approaches to repairing this kind of rupture, the pros and cons, and the commitment we would need to do to achieve the best possible outcome. Feeling confident in the SASH team we booked her in for a TPLO surgery and picked her up the next day. The communication from reception, the admission nurse and our vet was excellent.
The overnight team sent us text messages and a photo update reassuring us she was in the best hands, behaving herself and receiving the best post op care.
At discharge we were talked through what to expect and how to support Tala in her rehabilitation and recovery. The physio nurse was very informative and gave us guidelines to stick to, with week by week goals to adhere to.
We received a few follow up calls to check in on how everything was going and was recommended to sign up to Top Dog email series, a weekly guide to TPLO rehab and recovery. This was very helpful in keeping things on track.
Tala has recovered incredibly well and is back to long walks and, under supervision, plays at the park chasing her favorite toy – a ball. Her leg muscles are back to near normal and her surgical wound healed up well with no complications.
Our entire experience at SASH was positive and would highly recommend to any other pet families. Very thankful to be apart of this industry.
