Our story begins before the star of it arrives, with a black cat called Bubbles. A gentle and quiet boy who enjoyed playing chase and spent most of his days by the window waiting for his owners to return. He was the reigning champion and was eager to defend his title.
The humans were no match for him. Naturally. So they brought him a new contender.

A white and grey lady, Lewy, who looked large, purely due to the puff of her fur. 2 inches of her width was credited to this long mane.
They had a standing match with a set route. 2am every night. Up and down the hall twice. Around the bed. Across mum and dad’s heads. The winner was the first to reach the top of the cat tree.

The black cat had met his match.

One day, Lewy’s cheek had become large. And it kept growing. So instead of days lounging in the sun preparing for the night’s match, Lewy would disappear, and come back smelling strange.
One time, she disappeared for a whole night and Bubbles spent it yowling for her, eager to rematch.

She’d had a sleepover at SASH Tuggerah with Dr Paul and Dr Ally. They carefully cut away the rare sialocele, stitched her back up and spent many occasions on the phone to Lewy’s mum answering many, many questions and giving well-detailed updates.

Now she’s back home, Bubbles waits by the bedroom door for a rematch, and Lewy heals slowly inside, cuddled up in her favourite spot: the crook of a warm arm.

They’ve a date set, the minute Dr Paul gives the all clear, to tear around this house.
And this match, is going to be an epic one.
