Indianna was a brave chocolate Labrador. It was my honor and privilege to have known him. Last month I noticed a small lump on Indianna’s nose and immediately took him to our local vet.
The biposy came back as squamous cell carcinoma, a very aggressive form of cancer. Two days later we visited SASH Oncology for advice. The staff were so friendly and helpful.
The Oncologist was kind and knowledgeable and referred us to the Surgical Team. A few days later we were under the care a highly skilled surgeon that explained Indianna would need a planectomy(removal of his nose, and rebuilding of the front of his face).
The surgery went well and Indianna came home to us the next day. Id like to say Indianna’s story had a happy ending but we lost him unexpectedly from kidney failure.
The point of this story is that even though we could not save Indianna, the many individuals at SASH that contributed to his care were skilled, compassionate and went to great lengths to help him and my family.
Working in vet medicine is stressful and can be heartbreaking. It also has great success stories. Please be kind to our dedicated veterinary professionals regardless of the outcome. They give their all to help us and our fur babies. –
