About a week ago our little Nara an 11 month old Australian Mist kitten hasn’t moved from her bed from the morning, we found she has difficulty moving her back legs and walking, but she could take 3-4 steps and then rest. We rushed her to SASH and the vet said there doesn’t seem to be anything causing her pain, no broken bones etc (she hasn’t fallen- we don’t believe-although not entirely ruling it out) and sent us home with anti inflammatory and pain killers.
With the medications, the vet gave us 50/50 chance she would get better but she wouldn’t decline. Tonight it seems like she has declined, it seems like she lost all ability to walk (use her back legs) or sit.
She struggles stepping into her kitty litter box too.
We took her back to SASH North Ryde for further testing and we found she had a neurological disease affecting her nerves.
Thankfully she should make progress to health in 3 months time.
As first time pawrents, the thought of your baby being sick is absolutely heartbreaking.
Nara is a beautiful kitty with such a good temperament and all the nurses and doctors loved her! With all the probing and tests she still smiles and purrs at everyone!
As heartbroken as we are, we appreciate all the time and effort the SASH team did for our Nara! We Thankyou for making the experience as calming and informative as possible!
Nara’s recovery journey involves rest and physio and we will continue to love and guide her in the right direction
