Woody is a very long, very cute and very neurotic but very loving boy. Woody is a smooth miniature dachshund who is very loyal and attentive and likes to let us know by barking that a leaf dropped 3 houses away. Woody lives with his sister Minnie and they are living their best life, barking at leaves, neighbours, fruit bats, blue tongued lizards, the wind, planes, other dogs, people, thoughts, ideas, concepts…… you get the idea, they love to have a bark.

Their 17 year old human thought they might like to have a healthy snack and gave them some grapes. Insert dramatic music here. Someone in the household realised dogs should not eat grapes. Straight to SASH Adelaide 24/7 Emergency where Woody and Minnie were welcomed into a private room when we explained they do not like to play nicely with other dogs.

The vets were lovely and allayed our concerns and took the sausages off to have some blood taken. They returned with cute little bandages full of joy and mischief and barking like mad. But it wasn’t over yet as eating grapes can be a slow burn for symptoms to appear so 24 hours later back to SASH for some more bloods.

Minnie trotted off and returned happy, so happy she dropped a fresh one in the waiting room. Thank you Minnie. Sometime later, Woody was returned cuddled in the arms of the vet looking very pleased with himself. He had been such a turd it was too hard to get blood from him.

We appreciated the kind and funny approach of the staff and a discussion about risk and shared decision making about what we should do. We decided not to stress Woody further as he looked in peak health and we took him home and monitored him. Both sausages were absolutely fine……. until…… this week we noticed Woody ate some ancient chocolate easter eggs! Bloody hell Woody
