Nine months after SASH helped me say goodbye to my old boy Eli with unbelievable compassion, my new Great Dane, Kaiser, decided to create chaos… on a public holiday, naturally.
After four days of vomiting and refusing food, I rushed him to SASH Adelaide Emergency in a full panic. Kaiser, however, strutted in like he was arriving for a celebrity meet-and-greet. I’m falling apart, and he’s making friends with the automatic doors.
The team were incredible — calm, caring, and completely unbothered by a 50-kg dramatic teenager who thinks he runs the building. They stabilised him quickly and treated him so gently, he practically melted onto the floor.
Two weeks later, we were back again for ectropion surgery. I expected a tantrum. Instead, Kaiser trotted in like he’d booked himself a beauty appointment. Surgery flawless, recovery perfect, eyes looking better than mine most days.
And the funniest part?
After an emergency and surgery…
Kaiser still LOVES going to SASH.
Most dogs avoid the vet. Mine drags me inside like they’re handing out free roast chicken.
SASH cared for Eli when it mattered most, and they’ve now carried Kaiser through his first big medical dramas with kindness, skill, and a whole lot of patience for a giant puppy who thinks he owns the place.
