On my wife’s birthday in September of 2025 our beautiful little puppy Nala had just been hit by a car – unfortunately for the 2nd time – at just 7 months old. She had a clearly broken front right leg. We later found out after x-rays also a broken back left hip, right through the ball & socket joint.
We raced her to SASH Alexandria, a place we were all too familiar with in such a short space of time, and similarly all the staff far too familiar with Nala considering the circumstances. They immediately brought her in and began taking care of her. The photo is shortly after she had the initial surgery on her front right leg to correct the complex break, including placing 3 pins in her leg.
It was the first time we were able to see her after initially bringing her in and despite all the drowsiness from medication and anaesthesia she immediately tried to sit up in excitement when we came through the doors. It was the first moment where we felt like things might turn out okay.
Since then she made regular Friday returns to SASH in Alexandria with Dr Jack to get weekly checkups and replace the bandage / splint on her right leg; sporting a fun and flashy new colour bandage every week of course! After around 8 weeks since the initial surgery Dr Jack gave Nala the ‘All Clear’ and we celebrated with a big day out at the park to see all of her other doggie friends that she hadn’t been able to play with for 2 months.
She has since been very strong and has not shown any signs of discomfort or pain. We have been absolutely blown away be the consistently high standard of care that Nala has received, both from Dr Jack & the rest of the SASH Team.
Whilst we always say we hope to never have to see them again, it’s always so reassuring to bring Nala in and see the same amazing staff greet her, and know that whatever has happened, she is going to be alright.
