Bentley was one of the first patients at the new Northern Beaches hospital. He went in for a surgical consult for a ruptured ACL.
Poor thing couldn’t walk but was happy to sit for photo a op! He is always happy to have a photo!
After his consult with Dr Andrew Marchevsky, he was booked in swiftly for a Friday op as it turned out he had ruptured both his knees, our local vet at the time only looked at his left knee. So off we went ready to prepare for Bentley’s op.
Bentley is a 50kg Siberian Husky who is very precious and temperamental Aka… sook. True husky behaviours so we were very concerned for everyone safety and wellbeing. Everyone at the hospital was very considerate of our concerns and addressed them at our consult.
Unfortunately, the following day, our other beautiful pup had an incident while out on his morning walk with his dog walker. As Bentley couldn’t walk, his brother Scotch and sister Soda still did their daily walks, they love going out and being spoilt while parents work hard. But when I received a phone call from the walker that Scotch had collapsed during his walk. I urged them to take him straight to Northern Beaches SASH. He was treated straight away with the upmost respect and care. Having been there the day before for the opening everyone knew us but was in unfortunate circumstances, they couldn’t have been more considerate.
Scotch sadly passed away that evening from heat stroke. It all happens so fast within 2 days, 2 pups at the hospital. And we left without our baby boy.
Later that week on the Friday, it was time for Bentley’s surgery. As you can imagine, me (loving dogmum) was an absolute mess walking back into the hospital about to leave another pup for surgery. Everyone was amazing. Didn’t matter I was crying my eyes out. Didn’t matter I couldn’t string my words together but they allowed me to take Bentley in up to where he would be for the time before surgery, showed me everything and explained everything so I felt calm leaving him and going home to 1 pup not 3.
During the procedure they would message and call to give me updates and were simply amazing!
The genuine care shown and the thoughtful card and nose print of Scotch sent to us was amazing to receive while Bentley was recovering. That exact nose print is now tattooed on my wrist which I would never have if it wasn’t for their kind thoughts.
3 weeks later, back again for surgery #2 for Bentley. By this time we were frequent guests 🤣 but that didn’t matter, once again the best care and treatment for us all.
Bentley was like a superstar!
Surgery 2 was completed and we were home. His sister Soda really missed him not having her beautiful brother Scotch.
It truly was a hectic 4-7 weeks but I can say that SASH Northern Beaches was amazing. Never a problem for our random questions or calls of panic.
To Dr Andrew Marchevsky for Bentley’s surgeries , Dr Iain who looked after Scotch and to all the nurses and team, your care and professionalism doesn’t go unnoticed.
We are all truely grateful.
