We welcomed Lucifer the Maine Coon kitten into our family on the 15th October 2025. Unfortunately he came to us with an illness which didn’t show up until he arrived. Lucifer presented with blood in his urine and went down hill from there. After weeks of vet visits we attended SASH Adelaide for help.
After many tests it was found that Lucifer had a rare condition called Porter Systemic Syndrome usually found in dogs. This condition causes ammonia to build up in his system instead of being filtered through his liver, so he was being poisoned.
After many more visits back to SASH who were so professional and kind, it was decided to operate as the medication wasn’t working and he wasn’t in a good state.
Lucifer had a 50/50 chance of surviving the operation but we knew we had to do everything possible to save him and he was booked in for surgery.
SASH kept us informed throughout the operation and we knew the outcome wasn’t guaranteed survival but we loved him and would do anything for him.
Thankfully the operation went well but then there was still post operative problems that may present including seizures.
Lucifer was such a strong boy and he was allowed to come home after 3 days with no signs of any post operative symptoms.
We are so thankful to the staff at SASH as Lucifer would not be here today if it wasn’t for them.
He is now back to a normal kitten who is definitely making up for the time he was sick (especially eating! We have to put him in the cat room when we are eating as he thinks he’s starving even though he’s fed before us)
He’s such a beautiful, friendly kitten with loads of personality and we can’t thank everyone enough for their kindness and support.
