I’ve lost count how many times we have visited SASH over the years but this year was the most! A very tough year for us topped off by finding Ollie’s original rescue papers – he had his first vaccinations in 2006 – making him much older than I thought. Yep 19 years old!
He had a seizure in April and I rushed him to SASH Alexandria where Dr Erin Bell took such good care of him but came back with shocking news. His gallbladder was blocked and urgent tests were made. Not only were there issues with his gallbladder, but large masses were found in his bladder and tummy.
Biopsies were taken but inconclusive. I was preparing to say goodbye to my best mate when they suggested putting him in palliative care. He’s too old now to have an operation so euthanasia was discussed. I chose to go with Rest Your Paws who have been incredibly supportive of me and having them discuss his issues with the SASH team has given me confidence he’s getting the best care. Also interpreting the medical mumbo jumbo!
Oliver had a couple of seizures since, and a TIA. All vets again treated him and me with such respect. Stephen on the front desk at Alexandria was often on duty when we rushed in and has been so great and called Ollie his frequent flyer! He continues to be under care of Dr Mark Bilson for his eyes and Dr Barry Cherno for physio – this with all the teams at SASH North Ryde and Alexandria have given me such incredibly support. Dr Erin, Dr Alex, Dr Nicolla, Dr Jennifer, Dr Jack and some I’ve probably missed! And all the front line staff.
I didn’t think he’d make Christmas, but here we are. Thank you from the bottom of my heart to all the great teams at both locations.
