Arya – our 4 year old black and tan dachshund was rushed to SASH North Ryde all the way from Orange. Arya was always very playful and loved her toys, family and food.

Unfortunately we began to notice her decrease in enjoyment for the things she loves. Initially, the vet thought she had injured her knee, administrating an anti inflammatory injection and wanted to see how she would go, to follow up with an x ray if no improvement. Two days passed, Arya was still going slow then suddenly got worse.

Two days before Christmas she was taken to the vet in Orange, who immediately told us to go to Sydney, SASH for an operation. The worst news to get. She had IVDD and needed immediate spinal surgery. The three and a half hour drive felt like days and was incredibly emotional.

They had to keep our baby over Christmas and we were unable to visit as it can cause stress. The staff at SASH were amazing, providing updates every day and sending photos of Arya, which made the process so much easier.

Six days later we were able to pick her up! It was the longest six days ever and was especially hard not having her over Christmas – no morning licks or the sound of her running around the house. She’s back now and going so much better, improving from how she started and only getting better. Thanks so much to the lovely team at SASH North Ryde for caring for my baby over a hard time and bringing her back up to her normal self!
