We had our rescue puppy for only one day when he ate a chicken kebab skewer that had been dropped on the ground. Not the chicken- but the wooden skewer.
We brought him into SASH Alexandria where they gave us two options, a very expensive scope procedure or induced vomiting. Both carried risks, and we were really worried the kebab would do more damage on the way back out, but we chose to try the vomiting option first.
Once the vomiting was done, we had to sift through the vomit to piece together the kebab to make sure we had every tiny piece. It was like a really gross jigsaw puzzle.
We thought a big chunk was missing, and were thinking about going down the scope route – when we had the idea to call Dad at home to check the house one more time. Thank goodness, he found the missing chunk there and we could safely take Dingo home.
It was an expensive and stressful first week of puppy ownership and we certainly learned our lesson.
