Gigi is an ecstatic 4 and a half year old chicken, now living everyday of life chilled out and relaxed. Thanks to the vets at SASH North Ryde, she came home safe and sound.

Gigi was happily roaming around her fenced area with her sister, Chick Chick. Our family had recently adopted two rescue dogs, who were both Toy Poodle X. They both seemed very sweet, innocent dogs before they attacked Gigi.

One of the dogs bit Gigi on the wing, but she didn’t seem too ruffled by that affair. So we tried to make the dogs and chickens bond, which didn’t seem to have an effect. About a week later, the same dog bit the same chicken, but this time on the neck.

Leaving the dogs alone outside with the chickens in their fenced area was a big mistake as the dogs could easily dig under the fence. After Gigi was bitten, she was found unconscious but still able to respond to her name.

When we brought Gigi to SASH Avian & Exotics, they analysed the situation in hand and did all they could to save her. At some stage they thought she was going to die but she kept on fighting.
Gigi ended up having Ovarian cancer and a fracture in her neck. She underwent many surgeries and the SASH team helped her flourish a bit more each day.

Thank you SASH for looking after Gigi!
