A few months ago, my husband and I welcomed our sweet greyhound, Billy, into our family. Gentle, loving, and endlessly inquisitive, he fit beautifully into our home and lifestyle from the very beginning. Billy is wonderful with other dogs, though like many greyhounds, he still has a strong instinct to chase cats and anything small and fluffy.
At the end of November, while we were out celebrating my birthday, Billy was staying with a family member for the evening. Unfortunately, a cat made its way into the yard and Billy instinctively took chase. While the cat escaped, Billy was unable to stop in time and ran headfirst into the front gate.
At first, we didn’t think the injury was too serious — until we realised we could see bone through a cut on Billy’s head. We rushed him straight to SASH Central Coast, where he was immediately seen by Dr Jeff and the incredible Emergency and Critical Care Team.
The team quickly assessed Billy and, thankfully, believed he hadn’t suffered a head injury, but rather a serious sinus injury. Billy stayed overnight for monitoring, and following a CT scan, we learned he had a large sinus fracture that required surgery to remove bone fragments.
After surgery and another night in the care of the SASH team, we were finally able to bring our sweet boy home to recover. Thanks to the expertise, compassion, and dedication of everyone involved, Billy made an amazing recovery.
Today, you’d hardly know anything ever happened — he’s back to his usual happy, curious self. We are endlessly grateful to the team at SASH Central Coast for taking such wonderful care of Billy during such a frightening time.
