At just nine months old, little pup Fizz should have been all energy and mischief — the kind of Jack Russell–Mini Foxy cross who never stops moving. But instead of zoomies and tail wags, Fizz was getting sick.

That’s when we found ourselves in the caring hands of the incredible team at SASH Gold Coast.

From the very beginning, the vets, nurses and admin team all treated Fizz like he was their own. They worked quickly and calmly to stabilise him, never giving up until they had answers. After thorough testing and expert investigation, they diagnosed Fizz with an intrahepatic shunt — a rare and serious condition, especially for such a small dog, where his liver wasn’t functioning properly and couldn’t grow as it should.

The diagnosis was certainly confronting, but the SASH team met the challenge head-on. They researched extensively and consulted widely, pooling their knowledge and expertise to design a surgical plan for what was a complex and delicate procedure. Every risk was carefully considered, every step meticulously planned.

And then came the surgery. Despite the challenges and risks, it was a huge success!

Today, Fizz is a happy, healthy one-year-old pup — full of life, curiosity, and that classic Jack Russell spark. His liver is now working and growing as it should and he’s back to being a crazy energetic little pup.

We are endlessly grateful to the SASH team for their skill, compassion, and dedication. They didn’t just save Fizz’s life — they gave him the chance to live it fully.
