Dr Katy Townsend graduated from the University of Sydney in 2004 and moved to the UK to work in private practice. She then undertook an internship at The Animal Health Trust before moving to the United States to complete her small animal surgery residency combined with a masters at The Ohio State University and became a board-certified surgical specialist with the American College of Veterinary Surgeons. She stayed on as faculty for two years at Ohio State University before moving to Oregon State University in 2014, where she is currently a tenured Associate Professor and section head of small animal surgery.
Dr. Katy Townsend’s clinical and research interests are surgical oncology, soft tissue, minimally invasive and endocrine surgery. She is currently writing and editing a textbook on small animal endocrine surgery in conjunction with the American College of Veterinary Surgeons Foundation, and the Association of Women Veterinary Surgeons. She has authored over 40 articles, 3 book chapters and has lectured at international conferences. She has won teaching awards at both students and resident level and is excited to share her knowledge and love of surgery.
Outside of work, she enjoys hiking, camping, being outdoors, wineries and is very excited about being back in Australia, especially the beaches!! She enjoys spending time with her husband, a veterinary pathologist and their two kids.
