Dr Inken Henze

Specialist in Anaesthesia and Analgesia

After graduating from the Free University of Berlin in 2014, Dr Inken Henze undertook a rotating internship and worked in anaesthesia, emergency and critical care at the University of Munich. In 2019, Dr Inken moved to Switzerland for a residency in anaesthesia and analgesia at the University of Zurich. During her residency, she completed a doctoral thesis on hypotension in anaesthetised dogs and became involved in several research projects, including a collaboration with paediatric cardiologists and a research stay in the Caribbean at St. George’s University, Grenada. Inken became a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia (ECVAA) in 2023 and is a recognised Specialist in Anaesthesiology, Critical Care, and Pain Medicine. Before moving to Australia and joining SASH in 2025, she worked as a senior anaesthesiologist and lecturer at the University of Veterinary Medicine in Hannover.

While enjoying all aspects of clinical anaesthesia and education, her special interests include anaesthesia of critically ill patients, thoracic and cardiovascular interventions, and zoo and wildlife anaesthesia, in which she has undergone in-depth training in South Africa. She maintains a strong passion for patient and team safety, as well as the role of human factors, and has been involved in the development and implementation of several patient safety initiatives.

Outside of work, Inken enjoys outdoor activities including hiking, climbing, and caving, but she’s most often found in or on the water, swimming, surfing, or sailing.
