Dr Gemma McCallum is a Sunshine Coast local growing up in Yaroomba, and after completing her veterinary degree in Melbourne she has returned to the Coast.
Dr Gemma graduated with a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Melbourne in 2022, and was awarded top of her class receiving the Kate Gordon-Addison Medical Prize. Prior to this Dr Gemma studied a Bachelor of Animal and Veterinary Science at La Trobe University (Melbourne). Whilst studying she was a vet nurse in emergency and critical care at some of Melbourne’s largest 24hr veterinary hospitals. Now, Dr Gemma feels right at home in the fast-paced emergency environment of SASH. Dr Gemma’s veterinary interests are soft tissue surgery and pain management, specifically chronic pain, an area she has completed research in.
In her spare time, you’ll find Dr Gemma outdoors, mostly at the beach with her Border Collie, Opie.
