Registrar in Avian Medicine & Exotics Veterinarian
Arriving late 2024
Dr Akshata Taggers graduated from the University of Sydney in 2016 and has always wished to pursue specialisation in avian medicine. After graduation, she worked in Sydney before travelling to the UK and working in London and surrounds where she commenced a certificate in Advanced Veterinary Practice (Zoo Medicine) through the university of Edinburgh. In 2019, Dr Akshata moved back to Australia, undertaking the first avian, exotic and wildlife internship offered at the University of Queensland. Midway through 2020, she commenced an avian residency through the University of Queensland Teaching Hospital, and passed her membership exams, attaining a membership of Avian medicine and surgery through the ANZCVS. Dr Akshata has continued her avian specialist training across the east coast of Australia, through practices in Brisbane and Melbourne and completed her residency in November 2022. Her clinical interests include neonatal and geriatric patient management, endoscopy, surgery, nutrition and clinical pathology. In addition, Akshata is also passionate about teaching students.
Dr Akshata brings a unique skill set to the SASH family, bringing years of both university and private practice training to the new department at SASH Western Sydney. At present she is one of the only veterinarians in NSW who has completed an avian medicine residency training program and is set to complete her final specialist exam through the ANZCVS in July 2025. As a Western Sydney local, Dr Akshata is excited to provide avian and exotics veterinary services to a growing number of feathered, furry and scaled family members in the region.
In her spare time, Akshata enjoys spending time with her 21 year old cockatiel, making latte art, drinking coffee, crochet, and bushwalking.
