The Hospital

The Small Animal Specialist Hospital (SASH) is Australia’s largest and most distinguished animal referral and emergency hospital. The hospital offers a 24-hour intensive care unit staffed with 3 experienced Criticalists alongside a team of dedicated Emergency Vets and Nurses. SASH sees a huge variety of critical cases each day, providing extensive exposure to learning opportunities for the team.

The Position

SASH is seeking a highly motivated, compassionate emergency veterinarian to join our team. To be successful in this position you must be a team player and have the ability to think outside the box. This is a fantastic opportunity to assist in building our growing facility. This is a casual position with the high chance of moving to an ongoing permanent position. Shifts will rotate between evenings, overnights and weekends.

The Internship

Following the success of our ongoing Emergency and Critical Care (ECC) Internship, the team is excited to be offering a second Internship for the next enthusiastic candidate. As our ECC Intern, you will be an integral part of the team under the watchful guidance of our 3 American Diplomat Specialists in ECC.

The internship will involve a rotating roster of shifts during days, evenings, nights, and weekends, giving you exposure to a wide variety of interesting cases. You will have the opportunity for both independent case management (80%) as well as assisting Specialists in their management of critical cases all the while working in a supportive environment.

We have structured our Internship to prepare you to be successful and confident to take the next step into a residency programme in ECC. The programme is of 12 months’ duration and can include participation in a clinical research project, presenting at a conference or publishing if of interest to the candidate.

To be consider for the position, applicants must have

  • Qualified Veterinarian with a preferred minimum of 2 years’ experience
  • Current registration with the Veterinary Practioners Board of NSW (or eligible to receive)
  • Interest in specialisation and/or further education
  • Have completed a rotating internship (desirable)
  • Effective time management and organisational skills
  • Strong work ethic and commitment to the culture and values of SASH
