As a leader in emergency and specialist veterinary services, SASH is committed to training the veterinary leaders of tomorrow.
If you are selected to take part in a SASH intern or residency program, you will have the opportunity to work with our team of world-class specialists. Not only will you learn from Australian and New Zealand Fellows, but you will also meet American and European Diplomates, giving you a global perspective on gold-standard veterinary practice.
With the broadest range of specialist services available at SASH and its available caseload, few other places in the country are able to provide a similar education experience. Whether you have your heart set on specialisation or are considering it, SASH is able to provide you with the training and experience you need to advance your veterinary career.
The 12-month rotating internship program at SASH is designed to further develop your skills in a range of disciplines, with a goal of preparing you for a future residency, if you choose to do so. The SASH rotating internship is truly rotating, spending time with specialists in the key services of Medicine, Surgery, Emergency and Critical Care, with the ability to rotate through the other services . There are varying levels of case responsibility and plenty of opportunities to learn from registered specialists in these fields.
Interns participate in weekly didactic seminars, journal clubs, and morbidity and mortality rounds. We provide support for candidates wishing to sit their ANZCVS membership exams. We encourage our interns to submit journal publications and present at prestige conferences such as ANZCVS Science Week and speciality international conferences. Graduates from the SASH rotating internship have gone on to pursue highly competitive residencies locally and internationally in all specialities. They have also gone on to become excellent General Practice and Emergency Vets.
